While Calypso and its beach are fun places to spend your time, there are many other places you will want to visit, either on Elbow Cay or one of the many near-by islands. Golf carts, boats, and bicycles are greatly preferred by most visitors, and readily available for rent. The ferry is a critical transportation link to most of the nearby larger islands, though most renters use their boats.
The waters and surrounding cays are a boater's paradise. Most areas of interest are protected and safe even for those of limited boating experience. Several companies rent a variety of boats and are accustomed to educating newcomers in the safe enjoyment of the area. Ask the boat rental agents for recommendations based on the number in your party and your boating experience.
The owners of Calypso prefer the Albury 23 or 27 rented from Island Marine. Designed and built on the neighboring island of Man-O-War, these roomy, well-built boats are perfectly designed for enjoying the surrounding waters and will comfortably carry many people. Island Marine is very organized and professional. Their boats are exceptionally well maintained, probably the best of all the rental boats. Please note, the Albury 23 and 27 are very popular boats and reservations should be made far in advance. Having a good boat, like having a good house, will greatly enhance your enjoyment of the area.

Nothing beats the convenience of having your own golf cart. These have become quite popular on Elbow Cay, if not essential, and allow you to visit the more distant parts of the island as well as providing a convenient way to transport groceries, people and gear. (You will be surprised at how often you will visit the grocery store.) Two or more carts are typically necessary for Calypso renters, as no more than four adults should ride at one time. (Children and teenagers may not drive carts, and this is enforced.) Gas and electric carts are available, and both have the same top speed. The electric carts are quieter and smoother, but must be periodically charged. The gas carts are noisy and jerky, but do not need charging. The tranqulity of the island and pleasant conversation are far more enjoyable in the silence of an electric cart, and worth the minor inconvenience of charging your cart overnight.
A Word of Caution
Bicycles are great for those that prefer a more aerobic way of getting around. For older children, bicycles can be a ticket to freedom as long as they are cautious… driving on the left side of the road goes against most people's experience.

There are no cars available for rent on Elbow Cay, nor is there any reason to need one as most people use boats, golf carts, and bicycles, which also helps preserve the island's tranquility and unique ambiance.
For those choosing to explore the large adjacent Greater Abaco Island, cars are available for rent in Marsh Harbour. Before renting a car, consider the benefits of local knowledge by hiring a taxi.
